The success story

In 1925, company founder Burghardt VOSSEN was the first to turn terry towelling, a luxury fabric at the time, into an affordable everyday item. He was also responsible for the innovation of the house and bathrobe made of terry towelling. He thus laid the foundation for the success story of VOSSEN, which today exports high-quality towels, bathrobes and bath rugs to over 45 countries around the world. Since 2004, VOSSEN has been wholly owned by the Linz Textil Group.

Today

Today, some 100 years after its founding, VOSSEN remains a major player and, above all, an important employer in the region. More than 250 people are employed at the Jennersdorf site and are passionately committed to carrying on the vision of the company’s founder, Burghardt Vossen, which continues to this day.

The vision

Towels with value—carefully crafted, durable, high-quality textiles that continue to delight our customers for many years to come—that’s what VOSSEN stands for. And our vision? To bring our plush products from our manufacturing facility in Jennersdorf to the entire world. Every year, more than 5 million highly exclusive VOSSEN products leave our factory—including hand towels, bath towels, bathrobes, and bath mats.

Every success is just an incentive to do even better in the future.

The innovations

The invention of the terry bathrobe

The housecoat itself dates back to the 18th century. Usually made of silk, it was primarily worn by the master of the house and was used to receive guests in style.

In 1951, Burghardt Vossen came up with the idea of producing the first bathrobe made of high-quality terry towelling and promptly registered this innovation as a patent - and the success story of the terry towelling bathrobe began!

AirPillow Technology

Thanks to the innovative AirPillow technology, the towelling loops stand upright and form fine air cushions between the loops. This ensures noticeably more fluffiness, exceptional softness and significantly higher absorbency - for a particularly soft feeling on the skin.

The world's first certified vegan towel

When VOSSEN introduced the world’s first certified vegan towel in 2019, it caused quite a stir—people even started asking questions like, “Can you eat vegan towels?” Many people weren’t aware that animal-derived ingredients are used in towels as well, for example in dyes or softeners. A lot has changed since then—now the majority of the towels manufactured in Jennersdorf are vegan.

Vossen Everyarn

Thinking and living sustainably—this has long been the guiding principle behind our business practices. To give back to nature, we’ve developed our high-quality EVERYARN yarn—in which precious yarn scraps from textile production are carefully reincorporated and spun into new yarn. This process conserves valuable cotton resources.

Yes, we hemp!

Hemp is currently finding its way into all areas of life. Because hemp is the eco-plant par excellence - it is fast-growing and requires little water in cultivation. We have used this special fiber for the first time in our BALANCE collection and are thrilled because hemp absorbs moisture particularly well, dries very quickly and also has an antibacterial effect.

Back to earth

In all our decisions, we keep TOMORROW in mind—a future worth living for coming generations. This idea gave rise to our new TOMORROW collection: our company’s first biodegradable collection. At the end of their life cycle, the natural fibers in this collection are broken down by microorganisms in the soil into CO₂, water, salts, and biomass—thus returning to nature.

Lifetime color fastness

Thanks to our unique cold-block dyeing process, in which our towels “rest” together in the dye for up to 48 hours, we guarantee lifelong colorfastness for all our terry cloth products.
