The first wash

Well-intentioned but often wrong: the first time you wash these products after buying them, use a cold or lukewarm wash cycle. Bright, powerful colours can be washed out even at low washing temperatures.

By adhering to the recommended washing instructions, you will guarantee long-term enjoyment of your high-quality terry towelling products. Take advantage of Vossen's experience and always follow the hints for washing and care provided with your product.

Keep colours separate

As long as you follow the washing instructions, our products are colour-fast at 60 degrees.

However, separate light and dark coloured terry products the same way you separate other clothes for washing. With the darker and brighter colours, you may find that some excess dyes wash out during the first few washes. Do not allow damp terry towelling products to lie on top of each other for long - this too can cause stains.

Measure out the washing powder quantities

Always use the washing powder quantities recommended by the manufacturer; if too much washing powder is used, residues of the powder can adhere to the fibres, the cotton fibres go hard and the colours fade. Too little washing agent will mean that too little decalcifier is present in the water and this also leads to a hardening of the fibres.

Which washing powder?

Detergents contain bleach and whitening agents, and should only be used for white terry towelling products. For coloureds, we recommend fine washing agents which do not contain whitening agents - colour washing powders. These powders prevent colours from staining and fading, which ensures your terry towelling products retain their bright colours for many years.

Do not use too much fabric softener

Be sparing with fabric softeners; they adhere to the surface of the cotton fibres, which reduces the absorbancy and drying ability of the fabric. Fabric softeners also encourage the formation of fluff. If you use a tumble drier, you can dispense with softeners all together: during the drying process, the air fluffs up the terry towelling and makes it particularly soft and pleasant. Terry towelling dried over a radiator, on the other hand, goes stiff but can be fluffed up again by gentle rubbing and kneading.

Why do terry towelling products cause fluff?

It is perfectly normal for terry towelling products to form fluff at the outset - especially if they are high-grade, high-piled terry towelling fabrics, where individual stray fibres may free themselves at the beginning. To prevent excessive and long-term fluffing, the fabric should not be allowed to rub too much in the washing machine. This excessive rubbing can be prevented if the drum of the washing machine is always filled well. Right from the first wash, please ensure you follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer relating to the recommended loading level.

Avoid excessive shrinking

Good, high-quality terry towelling features particularly fluffy cotton threads, and these can never be absolutely shrink-proof. You can prevent the fabric shrinking by stretching the fabric while it is still damp or after it has dried and pulling it into shape. The tumble drier temperature should not be set too high and must never be hot enough to damage cotton fabrics. When you buy a terry towelling bathrobe, select a model which is slightly too large, because it will shrink a little after the first wash. Vossen recommends Miele tumble drier for soft terry towelling.

What to do about pulled threads

Never pull out loose threads - simply cut them off flush with the pile. To prevent pulled threads, please do not wash your terry towelling products together with other garments which have hooks or zips.
